On April 24, 2024, Detective Daniela Castro of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Sergeant Meghan McFadden of the Carteret Police Department commenced an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse.
The investigation revealed that Jeffrey Munguia, 32, of North Bergen, NJ, was the victim’s teacher at Carteret Middle School when the incident occurred in 2022.
On April 24, 2024, Munguia was charged with second-degree Sexual Assault and second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child and was arrested without incident.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Munguia are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
