What’s On My Ballot In New Jersey?

New Jersey voters will elect a new governor and Legislature in a pivotal 2025 race shaping the state’s future.

New Jersey will be electing a new governor this year, in a high-stakes, high-spending race that many have described as a litmus test for once reliably blue states in the post-Trump political era. The contest is expected to draw national attention as both parties invest heavily in shaping the state’s future leadership and political tone.

But that’s not all voters will be deciding this year. All 80 state Assembly seats are also on the ballot, giving residents the chance to reshape the balance of power in Trenton. The political direction of the Legislature will influence which policies can advance, or stall, under the next governor, from taxes and housing to education and public safety.

At the local level, voters in several townships will be weighing in on races for county commissioners, boards of education, and other municipal offices. Jersey City residents will elect a new mayor to replace Steven Fulop, who is not seeking re-election. Meanwhile, voters in Legislative District 35 will choose a permanent successor to Senator Nellie Pou, who vacated her seat after being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
