PROTEST FOR A GAZA CEASEFIRE!
On Saturday, December 30th, the People’s Organization for Progress will host a march and rally calling for a ceasefire of the military assault on Gaza.
It will take place at 12 noon. Participants will assemble at the Lincoln Monument, 12 Springfield Av Newark.
P.O.P. has had long standing solidarity with the Palestinian people and have participated in a number of the many mass multiracial protests that have sprung up in the metropolitan area in recent weeks.
Since Israel launched its military assault on Gaza, over 20,000 civilians have been killed, a majority being women and children drawing broad international condemnation of the character of the military campaign.
This march will call for three things:
1. Stop the Genocide
2. Demand A Permanent Ceasefire
3. Allow Immediate Humanitarian Aid With No Restrictions into Gaza.
The organization’s founding chairman Lawrence Hamm is again a candidate for the US Senate and has clearly distinguished himself on the issue from all other candidates for the seat of legally embattled Robert Menendez, by calling for a full ceasefire at the onset of Israel’s military campaign and restating his own long standing solidarity with the Palestinian people.
NEW YEAR’S DAY RALLY TO REMEMBER CARL DORSEY
On Monday, January 1st, The People’s Organization for Progress will rally to remember Carl Dorsey.
It will take place on the steps of Newark City Hall, located at 920 Broad Street Newark at 12 noon.
Dorsey was wrongly killed by Newark undercover Rod Simpkins on the night of January 1st 2021 when a squad of undercover officers suddenly flooded an area in which Dorsey just happened to be walking to his family’s home.
NJ Attorney General Matthew Platkin’s office cleared Simpkins of any wrongdoing. although Dorsey was clearly unarmed, was moving away from Simpkins with his hands up, and posing no threat after accidentally bumping into Simpkins as Simpkins jumped out of his squad car.
The incident was all captured on videotape.
Simpkins also had a record of complaints of exhibiting abusive behavior.
More incredibly, the Newark Police Department, now going through a major reform effort, went through the entire year 2020 without a single officer involved shooting…
