Atlantic City Women’s March for 2024 Honoring a Legacy of Leadership and Advocacy Late Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver
With the esteemed presence of the Oliver family, this year’s march promises to be a poignant tribute to a remarkable leader. Scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2024, the march will commence at 10 AM followed by a rally at 12 Noon, all unfolding within the hallowed halls of Jim Whelan Hall.
Empowering Voices, Inspiring Action
The rally boasts an impressive lineup of dynamic speakers, headlined by Reverend Dr. Regena Thomas, Director of Human Rights and Community Relations at the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and former Secretary of State for the State of New Jersey. Dr. Thomas’s keynote address promises to ignite passion and inspire attendees to continue the fight for social and racial justice.
In its inaugural year in 2019, Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver delivered a stirring keynote speech at the Atlantic City Women’s March, marking a historic moment. With an all-Black Women Steering Committee at its helm, the event paid homage to Mississippi civil rights icon Fannie Lou Hamer. This year’s rally echoes the spirit of empowerment, taking place in the very room where Hamer famously confronted the Democratic National Convention’s credentials committee in 1964. The voices of Black women, then as now, will resound powerfully.
“As the first Black woman to hold statewide elected office, Lt. Gov. Oliver left an indelible mark as a tireless advocate for social and racial equity,” remarked Stephenine Dixon, a veteran national political organizer and Atlantic City Women’s March Committee Co-Chair. “In 2024, we anticipate another year where women will mobilize and demonstrate their political prowess. We will honor Lt. Gov. Oliver’s courageous legacy by continuing the vital work of organizing our communities and effecting meaningful change.”
Dr. Nycole Lyles-Belton, CEO and Founder of Greatness In You, Inc. and Atlantic City Women’s March Committee Co-Chair, added, “Lt. Gov. Oliver was a beacon of inspiration and support for countless women. The Atlantic City Women’s March stands as a testament to the power of unity and upliftment. I am honored to participate in this historic occasion dedicated to honoring her life and achievements.”
