Juvenile Male Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting
Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Vincent Sabo of the New
Brunswick Police Department announced that a 17-year-old and 16-year-old male
have been charged with acts of juvenile delinquency for offenses which, if committed by
an adult would constitute Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a
Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Conspiracy.
On March 31, 2025, at approximately 6:34 P.M., authorities were notified regarding
a report of a shooting in the area of Lee Avenue and Rutgers Street. The victim was
transported to Robert Wood Hospital for treatment by people who were involved in the
incident.
Upon their arrival, officers located the victim, a 16-year-old male from New Brunswick, who sustained gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries. The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
An investigation led by Detective Brandt Gregus of the New Brunswick Police
Department and Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office
determined that a 17-year-old male from New Brunswick and a 16-year-old male from
New Brunswick were the perpetrators. The 17-year-old male was taken into custody and
arrested on April 3, 2025.
The 17-year-old is currently housed at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center and awaiting a preliminary hearing before a Family Court Judge. As with all criminal defendants, the charges against the juveniles are just allegations, and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
