The event, billed as “A Conversation with  C. Lawrence Crump,” brought together business and community leaders for a discussion on Newark’s  economic growth, business development, and policy initiatives.

“Engaging directly with Newark’s leadership is essential for fostering a thriving business  environment,” said Ferlanda Fox Nixon, president and CEO of NRBP.

“Council President Crump’s insights reaffirm the city’s commitment to economic growth, business support, and community  collaboration. NRBP remains dedicated to connecting our members with the resources and  relationships that drive success,” Nixon added.

Crump said the cornerstone for attracting and retaining  businesses in Newark included supporting organizations like Invest Newark, which provide critical resources for  businesses.

In addition, he said the city needed to beef up public safety through improved cleanliness and lighting, and grow downtown residential development and keep housing affordable.

Crump also said Newark needed to support small businesses by streamlining and simplifying the procurement opportunities, and that large-scale projects could be reshaped into smaller bids to attract a wider range of firms.
