Woodbridge Assault Under Investigation

On December 7, 2024, at approximately 6:42 P.M., authorities responded to a residence on Sherry Street in Woodbridge following a report of an unconscious male who suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

Upon their arrival, authorities located the victim, a 48-year-old man of Woodbridge Township. The victim was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he is currently in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation led by Detective Perry Penna of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the victim’s stepson, Ronald Javier Polanco-Barrera, 22, of Woodbridge, struck his stepfather with a hammer several times in the head.

Polanco-Barrera was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree Attempted Murder, second-degree Aggravated Assault, third-degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
