CITY OF NEWARK TO OPEN VETERANS SERVICE OFFICE AHEAD OF HOLIDAY ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2024

Mayor Ras J. Baraka will join Council Member-at-Large Louise Scott-Rountree and other dignitaries to cut the ribbon to officially open the City of Newark’s Veterans Service Office on Friday, November 8, at noon. Timed to coincide with Veterans Day, the event will feature a ceremony honoring veterans in the Rotunda on the first floor of City Hall at 920 Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard (formerly Broad Street). A ribbon cutting and a media tour of the office will follow it.

The Newark Veterans Service Office will assist the city’s many veterans, who are often unaware of their eligibility for benefits, including health care, education assistance, home loan information, supplemental income for disability, and more. These benefits can go unclaimed or under-claimed without proper navigation and guidance, leading to quality-of-life concerns for Newark’s vets.

To address this issue, the office will host educational workshops to help them qualify for service-connected benefits and expedite the process. The Newark Veterans Service Office’s strength-based approach through peer connection and empowerment will provide compassionate service and ease access to benefits.
