K-9’s Shot After Mauling a Child

November 4, 2024, at approximately 12:54 P.M., the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit received a report of an officer-involved shooting at The Knights Inn in Sayreville.

Initial investigation revealed that the Sayreville Police Department received a 911 distress call at 11:20 A.M. from a family member staying at the Knights Inn, reporting that their child was being attacked by their dogs.

Upon their arrival, officers saw the dogs attacking a 10-year-old boy. To stop the attack upon the child, the officers shot the dogs, and in the process, an officer was struck and superficially wounded by a ricochet.

The 10-year-old boy and the Sayreville Police Officer were both transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in stable condition and treated for their injuries.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Stephanie Redline of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-3316.
