New Jersey Urban News is currently looking for a talented and experienced part-time hybrid Digital Copy Editor to join our fast-growing team.

As a Digital Copy Editor, your main role will be to ensure the accuracy, clarity, and consistency of all written content published on njurbannews.com. By doing so, we can deliver impactful and informative stories that make a difference. Your tasks will include proofreading articles, blog posts, and other content to catch any grammar, spelling, or punctuation errors.

Additionally, you’ll diligently fact-check information to ensure its accuracy and relevance. Your sharp attention to detail will be vital in maintaining consistency with our website’s style guide. Collaboration with the editorial team will be key as we work together to develop and execute content strategies that amplify the voices and experiences of the Black community. We’ll also rely on your expertise to collaboratively track and analyze website traffic, readership and community engagement.

Responsibilities:

• Meticulously proofread all written content, ensuring impeccable grammar, spelling, punctuation, and factual accuracy, thereby maintaining the highest standards of journalistic excellence.
• Conduct thorough fact-checking to ensure that the information presented is reliable, authentic, and up to date, empowering our readers with accurate knowledge.
• Edit content to enhance clarity, conciseness, and readability, making our stories accessible and engaging for the Black community.
• When necessary, rewrite or restructure content, leveraging your expertise to optimize the overall quality and impact of our articles.
• Collaborate closely with the editorial team to develop and implement compelling content strategies that uplift and enlighten the Black community, amplifying their voices and experiences.
• Collaboratively track and analyze website traffic, leveraging data insights to measure the reach and resonance of our content, enabling us to continually refine our approach.
• Stay at the forefront of industry trends and best practices, remaining informed and adaptable as we work to empower and enlighten the Black community.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Exhibit a strong attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of excellence, empowering the Black community with reliable information.
• Display exceptional proficiency in grammar, spelling, and punctuation, ensuring that our content reflects the professionalism and credibility we strive for.
• Demonstrate the ability to work independently while also fostering collaboration and effective teamwork, as we collectively work towards our mission.
• Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, allowing you to effectively convey ideas and engage with our audience.
• Showcase proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), providing you with the necessary tools to excel in your role.
• Familiarity with web publishing software such as WordPress or Drupal will be advantageous in navigating our content management system effectively.
