For those who appreciate and savor the intricacies and creativity of jazz, you should mark your calendars for Saturday, August 19, 2023 when the Paterson Eastside Neighborhood Association 2.0, in partnership with the City of Paterson/Community Policing, returns to host its third annual Jazz in the Park event.
The event, which serves as a perfect outing for jazz aficionados, will take place on the lower level of Paterson’s historic Eastside Park, 1 to 9 p.m.
Jazz in the Park has quickly become one of New Jersey’s signature outdoor music events and according to the show’s promoters, this year’s show promises to be both bigger and better than ever. And it’s free to the public (rain date: Aug. 20).
The event will feature seven fantastic local and global jazz artists including the Prince of Sophisticated Soul, Will Downing and Paterson’s own R&B Princess Sybil as the headliners.
Also on stage will be the Latino jazz band Larry’s Latin Jazz Project, J.R. Rudiment, Malcolm Cobb, Alex Parchment, and the talented students from Paterson’s Rosa Parks School of Fine and Performing Arts.
And to keep the party going, there will be DJ Keyz spinning the sounds.
The event will also feature a vendor marketplace along with an assortment of food trucks offering all kinds of delectable treats.
According to one Paterson resident, “This event has put Paterson on the map along with our more experienced festival hosts in neighboring communities. The space is perfect, the talent is incredible and it’s free!”
And from one team member, “Paterson is an incredible mix of culture and community, and this diverse lineup of renowned artists makes Jazz in the Park a perfect summertime experience. “
The Paterson Jazz in the Park event is a true public-private partnership which consists of members of the Eastside Neighborhood Association 2.0 (ESNA), the City of Paterson Office of the Mayor, the Paterson Community Policing Division, and the Division of Recreation. The driving force of the team remains to foster community and neighborliness with others Paterson residents, as well as surrounding municipalities, while amplifying the talents of local performers.
