Josephine Baker – Most of her career was spent in Europe where she was dubbed “Black Venus” and “Creole Goddess” for her erotic beauty as an actress, singer, and dancer in a short skirt of artificial bananas and a beaded necklace. Despite her creativity, Baker demonstrated controversy by refusing to perform before segregated audiences in the United States which is why she abandoned her American roots for a European lifestyle.
