Secretary of State Colin Powell has died from complications from COVID-19 at age 84. His family announced his passing on social media on Monday.

Powell was a native of Harlem and raised in the South Bronx. He said was the first African American Secretary of State under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005. He served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President George H.W. Bush from 1989 to 1993. He
