Aceable.com, a leading online education provider, today released the results of its 2020 State of COVID-19 and Online Education Report. According to the report, which provides an in-depth analysis of the pandemic’s impact on the online learning landscape, 56% of Americans say all colleges should go exclusively online for the rest of 2020.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has been a massive catalyst for change and innovation affecting both students and education providers—and, in both the short and long term, there will continue to be substantial, if not profound, after-effects,” said Laura Adams, analyst at Aceable.com. “Our report reveals insight into how people’s perceptions and plans have shifted, and what the future of online learning is likely to look like.”
Among the report’s additional findings:

  • FUTURE OF EDUCATION: 72% of Americans say online learning is the future of education.
  • SHIFT TO ONLINE LEARNING: 35% say the effects of COVID-19 have caused them to take an online learning course.
  • HIGHER EDUCATION: 49% say that if they were going to take a higher education course, they would be open to taking the course online.
  • CAREER TRAINING: 52% say that if they were going to take a career training or certification course, they would be open to taking the course online.
  • DRIVER’S EDUCATION: 32% say that if they were going to take driver’s education or defensive driving course, they would be open to taking the course online.

“Having the ability to complete training, career development and certifications online gives students the ultimate convenience. Remote students have the freedom to learn in ways and on schedules that work best for them and their families,” said Adams. “Being able to meet work and personal commitments while still completing the required or desired education could make the difference for parents with young children at home or those caring for ill or aging family members.”
