On June 12, 2024, at approximately 9:28 a.m., authorities responded to the area of Roosevelt Avenue following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located two female victims who had both sustained gunshot wounds. The victims were airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.
One victim, Jasvir Kaur, 29, of Carteret, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The other victim, a 20-year-old woman from Carteret, is still in critical condition at the University Hospital in Newark.
An initial investigation led by Detective Keith Cassens of the Carteret Police Department and Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has led to the apprehension of Guarav Gill, 19, of Kent, WA.
On June 12, 2024, Gill was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree Murder, two counts of second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, one count of second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, one count of fourth-degree Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine and one count of first-degree Attempted Murder.
Gill is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending the results of his Pre-trial detention hearing.

As with all criminal defendants, Gill’s charges are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
