The townspeople of Gander, Newfoundland, are quick to earn the audience’s love and affection with endearing characters and their Canadian accents. Come From Away is the little-known true story of thousands of stranded passengers on planes grounded in Canada following the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The production observes the lives of a few travelers in the days after diverted planes land. It also explores the pervasive issue of the kindness of strangers.

Full of thrilling moments and heart-touching kindness, Come From Away was spectacular! The scenic design by Beowulf Boritt masterfully accommodates the band on stage, the interior of a plane; a coffee shop; a bar fully equipped with neon lights, and at times a look-out. The revolving set creates versatile and stunning imagery and movement within the staging.

It’s not a typical song and dance production. The musical staging by Kelly Devine channeled more movement based on symbolism and tableaus that perfectly directed your attention to specific characters’ through-line moments, sharing the stories of thousands by 12 actors. The cast was stellar. As an ensemble, they were transcendent. Come From Away is a beautiful, comedic, yet evocative tale of a time we will never forget and is impressively executed to boot. A must-see!

The cast of Come From way features Petrina Bromley, De’Lon Grant; Joel Hatch; Caesar Samayoa; James Seol; Q. Smith; Olivier Award nominee Rachel Tucker; Astrid Van Wieren; Emily Walton; Jim Walton; Sharon Wheatley, and Paul Whitty.
