The corner of Van Arsdale Place and Van Cortland Terrace in Teaneck and Liberty Road in Englewood now bear the name “Isley Brothers Way” in honor of the legendary R&B group. Early in their career the group spent time in both areas.
Ceremonies for the renaming were held on Thursday hosted by the townships of both Teaneck and Englewood.
“I’m truly grateful and humbled that Teaneck and Englewood, two cities that are so near and dear to me, have chosen to honor the Isley Brothers in this way,” Ron said in one report.
The Isley Brothers are originally from Cincinnati, Ohio but moved to New Jersey in 1960’s. Ron settled in Teaneck and the group decided to start their own record label calling it “T-Neck Records.” The 1969 hit-single “It’s Your Thing,” which won a Grammy Award in 1970, and the 1973 single “That Lady” were both released on the label.
In 2019, The Isley Brothers received the National R&B Music Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award and Proclamations from the City of Atlantic City.
