Newark Trust for Education supplies 140 Chromebooks to students in first through eighth grade whose families qualify for the devices. Students were chosen to receive the technology with input from their school’s Parent Liaison or Social Worker.
The Chromebooks were distributed on April 14 at the offices of non-profit organization Leaders fo Life in Newark. The Trust is partnered with Leaders for Life to distribute the Chromebooks directly to families, creating flexibility of use for them. While the primary reason was to get devices into students’ hands, the Trust’s conversations with families taught them that having multiple computers in the house allows families the access they need for education, job training, healthcare, and socialization.
The distribution was funded by South Ward Promise Neighborhood (SWPN). 100 Chromebooks and headsets were distributed in the South Ward earlier this year and additional distributions are planned.
