The People’s Organization For Progress annual Martin Luther King march was held Saturday afternoon in Newark. The march brought out several people and began at the Lincoln Statue at Market Street and Springfield Avenue.

The march was held to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which was on Jan. 15. The King holiday is on following Monday.

“We are marching against racism and fascism and to uphold the ideals for which Dr. King stood,” Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress said “We are asking everyone outraged by the racist white supremacist terrorist attack on the Capitol and attempted fascist coup to
march with us.”

The theme of this year’s march was “The People Are Suffering: Martin Luther King March For Racial And Economic Justice.”

Among the speakers at the march were representatives of grassroots organizations including Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress.

Participants planning wore face masks and gloves and practiced social distancing at the march.
