Rutgers football will kick off an eight-game 2020 Big Ten schedule on Saturday, Oct. 24 with a matchup at Michigan State, the conference announced. The Scarlet Knights host their home opener on Saturday, Oct. 31 against Indiana at SHI Stadium.
Special date games, including Fridays, will be determined and announced at a later date.
Rutgers travels to Columbus, Ohio, on Nov. 7 to face Ohio State, followed by back-to-back home games against Illinois on Nov. 14 and Michigan on Nov. 21. The Scarlet Knights will make their first trip to West Lafayette, Indiana, to take on Purdue on Nov. 28, before closing out the home slate against Penn State on Dec. 5. The eighth game features a road matchup against Maryland on Dec. 12.
All 14 schools will play a ninth game on Dec. 19, the Big Ten Champions Week, with teams from the East and West Divisions competing against the opponent it matches in the standings. The first-ranked team in the East will face the first-ranked team in the West, followed by the second-ranked teams and so on. More details will be announced at a later time.
The Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors (COP/C) voted unanimously to resume the football season after the fall season was originally postponed on Aug. 11. The league has adopted significant medical protocols including daily antigen testing, enhanced cardiac screening and an enhanced data-driven approach when making decisions about practice/competition.
